The North American Region includes only one country and that country is Mexico. Mexico is composed of the Northeast Region, the West & Northwest Regions, the Central Region, and the East/Southeast Regions.
Central America
Central America is composed of a total of seven countries. They include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
South America
South America is a continent and is composed of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Functional Regions This map shows the different population densities in Latin America. Functional regions are defined by their connections. For functional region maps, certain mediums extend and diminish over a distance. Such, this population density map has extreme areas where population is the most dense from spanish and portuguese settlements that remain popular today. They diminish as they extend further and further out. Thus, this map can be an example of a functional region map.
Vernacular RegionsLatin America
This map is largely based on a mental picture making it a vernacular map. This map is Darcy Ribeiros classification of Latin American countries as "Transplanted peoples" (Blue), "New Peoples" (Red) and "Testimony Peoples" (Yellow). This is an opinionated map thus the borders can always be altered in different peoples' minds.
Mexico
This map of Mexico can be defined as a vernacular regional map simply because it depicts different regions within the area using vague terms such as northeast and west. These borderlines are actually often disputed.
South America
This map of South America shows the vernacular regions of the continent simply with indefinite terms. These borders lines are often a mental picture that we cannot draw out on the ground. Different maps have similar but may have slight changes within this map.
